I posted the question in Shoutbox of "why is it that Advanced Auto Parts, and Amazon both say that a Motorcraft FL1A oil filter will not fit my 1968 Cougar?"

I'll go on to ask you guys how often you change the oil in your cars that don't get driven many miles a year.

At the recommendation of my engine builder I have always used Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil. I have also always used the Motorcraft FL1HP Filter.

I wonder if the HP filter is actually better than the standard FL1A?

Because the auto parts stores and amazon sellers smoke crack. The newer F1HP is longer than the older A, but either should work.

In the cars I don't drive very often, I change the oil once a year.

That is what I do too. I wonder how much oil really breaks down over time. I'm sure the oil companies would say to change it every 6 months regardless of low mileage.

Same here. Once a year for the hardly drivens and every 6 months or 10K for the others. I use synthetic in everything and zinc additive for the Cougar.
